TIMBER AFTERCARE GUIDE
7
Painting & Varnishing
All of our garden structures are fully pressure treated and come with a 10 year anti-rot guarantee.
We advise that you protect your building by using a weatherproof preservative or stain within 8 weeks of
installation. Always ensure that you carefully follow the product's instructions, and make sure that it
can be used with treated timber.
Knots & Splits
Over time you may find the odd knot may fall out, or a small split in the grain may appear, this process
is only natural due to the properties of timber and is not considered a defect. Use a natural coloured
wood filler to fill these in. We highly recommend "Ronseal Multi-Purpose Wood Filler" which is simple
to use and sets quickly.
Door Bolts
Once the mini shed has settled, the door bolt may become harder to open. If this happens you will need to
remove a couple of the screws, realign the bolt and then fasten them back in place, making sure the
bolt opens smoothly.
Surface Salts
All our timber is fully pressure treated, and as such, as the timber dries out, some liquid may evaporate
from the surface and this can leave deposits of treatment salts on the timber surface This is visible as
greeny-blue speckles that can vary in severity. The speckling is very easily mistaken for mould, but can
be removed with light sanding or washing.
Timber Characteristics
Timber is subject to environmental changes such as shrinkage in warm / hot weather and expansion in
damp / wet weather, this is not a defect but a natural characteristic of wood and is not covered by the
timber guarantee.
