CAR BATTERY MAINTENANCE
It is essential to keep your battery regularly charged up throughout the year, especially during the winter
months. In the winter the effectiveness of your car battery is reduced by the cold. Oil is thick, engines are
difficult to start and the heater, windscreen wipers and lights are all draining power. It is at this time that
batteries have to be at peak power. If your battery is not regularly maintained and kept fully charged, it can
cause problems and a possible breakdown.

SOLUTION
Bad
Battery
The
ERROR
LED will illuminate under the
following bad battery conditions:
If the residual battery voltage is less
than 1.5V
If the battery voltage is still less than
11V after 4 minutes charging.
If the battery reaches full charge, but
the battery voltage then falls to less
than 12V within 2 minutes.
If the battery does not reach full charge
within 24 hours.
Have the battery tested by a qualified
technician.
Replace the bad battery if necessary.
Battery not
charging
Lack of 230V AC input power
If the battery terminals are corroded or
the clips are not making a good
connection
If battery connection leads are reversed
the
ERROR
LED indicator will illuminate:
Charging a very cold battery
Make sure that the charger is plugged into
mains supply AC outlet and the POWER LED
is illuminated. Check and replace the mains
plug fuse if necessary.
Switch off the charger and check the battery
clips; remove dirt or corrosion as necessary
and connect correctly.
Switch off the charger and connect the leads
correctly
In temperatures below freezing (0
℃
), a battery
will not accept a high rate of charge. The rate of
charge will increase as the battery warms.
Never attempt to charge a frozen battery.
