32 Chapter 3: Using multiple Matrox Orion HD boards
Installation of multiple boards
You can install and use up to four Matrox Orion HD boards in one computer.
Install each additional Matrox Orion HD board as you installed the first board
(refer to
Chapter 2: Hardware installation
). The number of Matrox Orion HD
boards that you can install is dependent on the number of physical slots in your
computer and your BIOS; your BIOS establishes how many PCIe devices can be
mapped to the PCIe memory space of your computer.
Using MIL-Lite, you have to allocate a MIL system for each board and allocate
the resources of each MIL system. For more information, see
MsysAlloc()
with
M_SYSTEM_ORION_HD
in the MIL Reference.
If necessary, to help identify the Matrox Orion HD boards that are installed in
your computer, you can use the provided DIP switches and LEDs. For example,
you can set LED 1 to flash on board 1, LED 2 on board 2, and so on. You can set
the DIP switches on each board to a different configuration so that your
application can identify the boards and turn on the appropriate LED.
DIP switches
When a DIP switch is on, it enables an input bit of the user input/output register.
To read the value of a bit, use the MIL-Lite function
MsysInquire()
with
M_USER_BIT_VALUE...
. The DIP switches correspond to the register bits
numbered from 0 to 5.
LEDs
To turn on a LED, you need to set an output bit of the user input/output register.
To set the state of a bit, use the MIL-Lite function
MsysControl()
with
M_USER_BIT_VALUE...
. The LEDs correspond to the register bits numbered
from 6 to 9.
