Technological glossary:
The KI-series of Marantz are the embodiment of the knowledge
and inspired vision of Ken Ishiwata. To understand his vision
best, just experience this exquisite piece of equipment.
Understand the vision
Unlike conventional Voltage feed back amplification, the
Current feedback amplification makes the power amplifier
insensitive to difficult loudspeaker loads. In the PM7001 KI we
reduced the feedback impedance of the Current Feedback
circuit to its minimum to make it faster and extend the
bandwidth. The result is a much more accurate and realistic
sound.
Current Feedback amplification
The power supply of any amplifier is like the heart of the
product. Therefore we utilize in the PM7001 KI signature a
Toroidal Power Transformer. This special transformer has a
much higher efficiency due to very low impedance of the
windings. Fast high current deliver capability is very important
to follow each detail in the music. In addition it has the
advantage of extremely low electromagnetic radiation.
Therefore any noise and hum into the surrounding circuitry is
reduced to the absolute minimum. The sonic result speaks for
itself.
Toroidal power transformer
The Marantz HDAM is a low level signal amplifier. It is in use
where the audio signal has a very low voltage level and has to
be handled with a maximum of care. Most of the other audio
brand companies are using for this integrated circuit (IC)
operational amplifier (op-amps). These ICs of course are less
expensive but unfortunately these ICs do not match the very
high requirements of Marantz. Marantz developed its own
discrete circuit boards. These HDAMs consists of discrete
components with short mirror image L/R signal paths. These
devices are doing the same thing as the Op-amps, but
outperform the regular integrated circuit Op-amps dramatically
in terms of the Slew Rate and noise level, resulting in a much
more dynamic, accurate and detailed sound.
Marantz' new HDAM
To achieve the best possible sonic performance, signal paths
need to be short, direct and mirror imaged. The construction of
our circuitry provides improved stereo image by ensuring
symmetry between right and left channel layout. The tone
defeat circuit will insure shortest signal paths by passing tone
control board completely. The rigid chassis, solid metal
construction and solid metal front create an anti-resonant
environment.
Symmetric circuit architecture
Every Marantz product is designed with a fine ear and eye for
details. The designers have to know the characteristics of every
component. On paper the component might look excellent but
the result may fall short of the combined design expectations.
Therefore Marantz collects vast amounts of information upon
specifics component performance capabilities. The result
guarantees Marantz selects the appropriate components for the
specific design application. The sonic result is critically
acclaimed by international reviewers. In other cases it's simply
not possible to use standard components that meet the high
Marantz standards. These components will then be specially
made for Marantz only in co-operation with the Marantz
engineers.
Customized Components
The PM7001 KI is a clear example of benchmark engineering
and craftsmanship of Ken Ishiwata and features a number of
Marantz sound enhancements. The PM7001 KI integrated
amplifier is built on a rigid dual layer enforced chassis. All of
the analogue signal and control circuits are separated and
shielded to prevent cross-talk and other unwanted
interference. A high grade power supply centered around a
special selected toroidal transformer secures maximum
separation, clarity and dynamics. This design configuration is
capable of a clear and powerful reproduction of the most
demanding musical performances. The strength of each KI
Signature design can be found in the attention to detail and the
synergy of the different elements.
