Maintenance
After every use, it is recommended to thoroughly rinse your kayak with water.
Make sure to rinse foot pegs and all hardware with plenty of fresh water after
paddling in saltwater, brackish or polluted water.
Kayak Wash
Recommended supplies:
- Bucket
- Sponge
- Soft cloth
- Garden hose
- Wash soap solution
In preparation, fill your bucket with water and add a cap or two full of soap.
Next, find a clean and flat area to wash your kayak. Utilize kayak cradles or
stands if you have them, if not, a deck or grassy lawn works great.
First, wash down the kayak with your garden hose to remove any surface dirt,
pollen, debris, sea salt, etc. While the kayak is still wet, take your sponge and
soak it in the soap/water solution. Wash down the entire kayak with the soap/
water solution. This will remove any stubborn dirt and debris. Be careful not to
remove decals while scrubbing your kayak.
After you scrub down the surface with soap/water solution, rinse down the
kayak with your garden hose again to remove any excess suds. Remove
threaded eyelet that is located near the stern to drain out any excess water that
might be inside the hull. Let your kayak air dry, or towel dry the surface if you
prefer. Turn your kayak over and make sure the hull is completely dry.
Kayak UV Protection
As a finishing touch, to prevent damages from harmful UV radiation we
suggest a quality UV protection. 303 Aerospace Protection can be applied as a
sunscreen for your kayak.
Patching Holes
Super linear polyethylene is very durable and can be repaired if the need
arises. Cracks or deep gouges can be welded with a suitable heat gun and resin
powder. Marine goop is also a very inexpensive way to seal a pin-hole leak or
other small patching areas.
Instructions for Patching Holes:
Be sure NOT to leave soldering iron in one area too long; you can burn a hole
in your kayak. The cooling process takes about 10 minutes. Test area when
finished. In some cases you might need to add a second application depending
on the size of the repair. Items needed: color plastic to match your kayak and a
pencil-grip soldering iron. (Approximately 25 watt)
