ASSEMBLY
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is
switched off and the battery cartridge is removed
before carrying out any work on the tool.
CAUTION:
Never start the tool unless it is
completely assembled.
Operation of the tool in a
partially assembled state may result in serious per-
sonal injury from accidental start-up.
Installing the loop handle
Attach the loop handle to the tool by securing it with a
hex bolt and the thumb nut as shown in the figure.

The angle of loop handle is adjustable. To adjust the angle of loop
handle, loosen the thumb nut, then set the loop handle at a proper
angle according to your work, and then tighten the thumb nut firmly.
Installing the protector
CAUTION:
While installing the protector, be care-
ful not to contact the nylon cord cutter on the protector.
Contact with the cutter could result in personal injury.

Mount the protector by fitting it on to the motor housing,
and then secure it with the screw.
Installing the wire guard
NOTICE:
Do not expand the wire guard outward
too much. Otherwise it may break.

To reduce the risk of damaging the objects in front of the
cutting head, attach the wire guard to the motor housing
so that it controls the cutting range.
Slightly expand the wire guard outward and then insert
it into the holes of the motor housing.

When wire guard is not in use, lift it for the idle position.

Attaching the shoulder harness
CAUTION:
Be sure to attach the hook of shoulder
harness to the tool securely. If the hook is attached
incompletely, it may come off and cause an injury.
CAUTION:
When you use the tool in combi-
nation of the backpack-type power supply such
as portable power pack, do not use the shoulder
harness included in the tool package, but use the
hanging band recommended by Makita.
If you put on the shoulder harness included in the tool pack-
age and the shoulder harness of the backpack-type power
supply at the same time, removing the tool or backpack-type
power supply is difficult in case of an emergency, and it may
cause an accident or injury. For the recommended hanging
band, ask Makita Authorized Service Centers.
NOTICE:
Before operation, adjust the shoulder
harness to the proper length to prevent fatigue.

Attach the hook of shoulder harness to the tool as
shown in the figure.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
WARNING:
Always be sure that the tool is
switched off and the battery cartridge is removed
before adjusting or checking function on the tool.
Failure to switch off and remove the battery cartridge
may result in serious personal injury from accidental
start-up.
Installing or removing battery cartridge
CAUTION:
Always switch off the tool before
installing or removing of the battery cartridge.
CAUTION:
Hold the tool and the battery car-
tridge firmly when installing or removing battery
cartridge.
Failure to hold the tool and the battery
cartridge firmly may cause them to slip off your hands
and result in damage to the tool and battery cartridge
and a personal injury.
CAUTION:
Always install the battery cartridge
fully until the red indicator cannot be seen.
If not,
it may accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury to
you or someone around you.
CAUTION:
Do not install the battery cartridge
forcibly.
If the cartridge does not slide in easily, it is
not being inserted correctly.

To remove the battery cartridge, slide it from the tool
while sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.
To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on the
battery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slip
it into place. Insert it all the way until it locks in place
with a little click. If you can see the red indicator as
shown in the figure, it is not locked completely.
