Step 4: Conduct the hearing screening
Once the patient understands the task, continue on to the screening process.
Change the
HEARING LEVEL
to
20 dB
HL
. (Remain at 1000 Hz and
RIGHT
ear).
Present the tone with the
TONE SWITCH
.
Record whether the patient responded by raising their hand.
Change the
FREQUENCY
to
2000 Hz
, and play the tone (at 20 dB).
Record if the patient responds.
Change the
FREQUENCY
to
4000 Hz
, and play the tone (at 20 dB).
Record if the patient responds.
Change the
FREQUENCY
to
500 Hz
, and play the tone (at 20 dB).
Record if the patient responds.
Switch to the
LEFT
ear with the
F2
key (press F1 when using MA 27e).
Repeat the process for the Left ear, playing each of the tones (500, 1000, 2000,
4000 Hz) at 20 dB

.
NOTE
: When presenting tones to the patient, be sure to vary the timing of the tone
presentation to prevent the patient from routinely raising their hand for an expected
tone versus the actual tone presentation.
Step 5: Results
PASS
: The screening is considered a PASS if the patient responds to all frequencies
in both ears.
REFER
: The patient does NOT pass the screening and should be REFERRED for
further testing if
the patient misses any of the frequencies in either ear, even if it is just one.
OR
cannot complete the screening process.
