b. Connection & Audio Test
Following connection (page 38) and having set the power switch to ON (I) (
20
, page
39), the nerve monitor will perform a pre-amplifier and stimulator pod connection
test and an audio test as well as a full system function test.
An audible beep will sound to confirm the test.
Once communication with the pre-amplifier and stimulator pod are established, the
'home screen' will appear on the touch screen DCU (page 41).
i. Test failure
If the pre-amplifier fails the connection and audio test during electrocautery use,
please disconnect the mute sensor from the rear of the DCU and re-try the test. After
the test is complete, an audible beep will sound and the 'home screen' will appear as
described above. The mute sensor can then be re-connected to the rear of the DCU
(page 17).
If one component fails testing, the option is given to proceed with that component
disabled e.g. If the pre-amplifier fails the connection test, a prompt will ask ' Do you
wish to proceed with monitoring disabled?'
Note:
If audio is disabled following audio test failure; no EMG audio
will be output and the following icon will display in place of the master
volume:
c. Disconnection
Note:
If applicable, ensure that the monitoring session has been stopped and the
patient report completed before disconnection, or any data for that session will be
lost.
At the end of the operation, once monitoring has been stopped; set the power switch
to OFF (O) (
20
, page 39). If necessary, disconnect the AC mains lead and wrap around
the 2 lugs at the rear of the base unit for storage.
Remove and dispose of any disposables used (such as electrodes and probes) and
clean and/or disinfect the nerve monitor and accessories if necessary (see page 76).
Disconnect the pre-amplifier and stimulator pod and store in the storage pockets of
the nerve monitor, using the storage aids provided as illustrated below. Do not wrap
the cable around the pod as doing so may cause damage to the cable.
Note:
Once powered down, you must wait a minimum of 30 seconds before starting
the system up again to allow the nerve monitor to restart correctly.
