be your driver version number. Also there will be check-boxes for spe-
cial functions to be described later.
At this point it will be necessary for you to know the port address of the
parallel port your PORTMAN is connected to and enter it in the set-up
box.
Typically, LPT1 will be address 3BC on a desktop computer with a
monochrome display. On color systems or most laptops, however, the
address of LPT1 is 378.
If you are unsure of what your port address is or how to find out,
please see the section in this manual titled “About Your PC Port
Address” (page 13), or you can consult your computer owner’s manual.
There is also a utility on your disk called LPT.EXE that will find the
address of any parallel ports that are enabled on your computer. (Be
sure to run this program from DOS, since Windows can complicate the
running of hardware diagnostic software.)
Note: IRQ numbers are typically chosen automatically based on the
LPT number setting. Address 3BC or 378 for LPT1 will almost always
use IRQ 7. So this will be set automatically from the main screen of the
set-up dialog box. Likewise, LPT2, which will usually be address 278,
will almost always be IRQ 5, and also chosen automatically.

11. In order for Windows to install the new driver completely, you will be
required to exit and restart Windows.
12. After restarting Windows, run your MIDI application(s). You will need
to set up each MIDI application individually. From within the applica-
tion(s), select the MIDIMAN PORTMAN 2x4 as the current MIDI device
(the selection procedure will depend on the application) in order for the
application to communicate with your PORTMAN interface properly.
IMPORTANT: If you encounter problems using the PORTMAN 2X4
with Windows, verify that Windows has loaded the PORTMAN 2X4 dri-
ver. In Windows 98 or 95, go to Control Panel, open Multimedia, click
Devices (Advanced in Win95), and open the MIDI Devices &
Instruments list. In Windows 3.1, this can be done by opening the
Control Panel icon in the Main Group and double clicking on the
Drivers icon.
Important Note for Windows 98, 95, and Windows 3.11 for Work Groups
Users
Both Windows for Work Groups and Windows 98 & 95 load a virtual print
driver for networked printers. This driver will interfere with the PORT-
