Software

Operating System

There are several different aspects to the setup and configuration of the MX8WM. Many of the setup and configuration settings
are dependent upon the optional features such as hardware and software installed on the mobile device. The examples found in
this section are to be used as examples only, because the configuration of your specific MX8WM may vary. The following
sections provide a general reference for the configuration of the MX8WM and some of its optional features.

Note: LXE recommends frequently charging the MX8WM using an external power source to ensure continuous charging
of the backup battery.

Windows Mobile 6.1

Note: For general use instruction, please refer to commercially available Windows Mobile user’s guides or the Windows
Mobile on-line Help application installed with the MX8WM

This section’s contents assumes the system administrator is familiar with Microsoft Windows options and capabilities loaded
on most standard Windows XP or Windows 2000 desktop computers.
Therefore, the sections that follow describe only those Windows capabilities that are unique to the MX8WM and its Windows
Mobile environment.

Important

Based on your installed software version and hardware options, your setup may not be exactly the same as those that are
described in this guide. Contact your

LXE representative

for information on the latest upgrades for your MX8WM.

MX8RG

Reference guide for the user of an MX8 with a Windows CE 5 operating system.

Installed Software

Note: Some standard Windows options require an external modem connection. Modems are not available from LXE nor
supported by LXE.

When you order an MX8WM you receive the software files required by the separate programs needed for operation and
wireless client communication. The files are loaded by LXE and stored in folders in the mobile device.
This section lists the contents of the folders and the general function of the files. Files installed in each MX8WM are specific to
the intended function of the MX8WM.
Files installed in LXE mobile devices that are configured for a wireless environment usually contain a radio specific driver – the
driver for the radio is specific to the manufacturer of the radio installed in the wireless host environment and are not
interchangeable.
