Description
The NGRX-PB increases the GRX-3000 Main Control
single zone load capacity (Incandescent, Magnetic
Low Voltage, and Neon/Cold Cathode only) to
2000W/VA.
It mounts in a standard 2-gang wallbox (minimum
depth: 2 3/4”, recommended depth: 3 1/2”).
Note: The load of low voltage inductive transformers in VA=
the low-voltage lamp watts x 1.3 (representing a 30%
loss due to the transformers). Example: 5 low-voltage
lamps at 50W each= 250 lamp watts x 1.3 = 325VA.
Installation & Operation
New Installations:
Check each zone for short or open circuits. Turn
power off. Connect a standard switch between the hot
lead and that zone’s load wire, then turn power on. If
the load device does not operate, the circuit is open.
If the breaker trips (fuse blows), the circuit is shorted.
Correct any open or shorted condition and test again
before proceeding.
1.
Turn power off to GRX 3000 Series Main Control
Unit and the feed to the NGRX-PB Power Booster.
Warning:
Always turn off the circuit breaker or remove the
main fuse from the power line before doing any
work. Failure to do so can result in serious
personal injury.
2.
Strip insulation from wallbox wires as shown:
3.
Connect wiring as shown in Figure 1. Each
terminal will accept up to two wires (#12 to #18
AWG). Use 75 C° copper (CU) wire only.
Terminal tightening torque= 9in/lb.

Important Notes:
1. This control must be installed by a qualified
electrician.
2. Install in accordance with all applicable regulations.
3. Improper wiring can result in personal injury,
damage to the control, or damage to other
equipment.
4. Use only with core-and-coil (magnetic) type low
voltage transformers. Before attempting to
control a solid-state low voltage transformer,
call Lutron’s toll-free hotline and ask for
Application Note No. 19, Guide to Dimming
Low-Voltage Lighting (part number 362-219).
5. In dimmed low-voltage circuits, to avoid
excessively high current flow that can cause
transformer overheating and failure:
(a) Do not operate the unit with all of the lamps
removed or with any inoperative lamps.
(b) Replace any burned out lamps immediately.
(c) Use only transformers which incorporate
thermal protection or fused primary windings.
