Maintenance:
While the Electralume® is made of the finest materials, care should be
exercised in order to maximize its product life. Always follow the
maintenance steps below, failure to do so could damage or result in the total
loss of the light.
1.
First and foremost both o-ring seals should be visually inspected after
each use. Do not open the light to do this as this can compromise the
seal, instead just look through the clear cap to be sure there is no
debris between the o-ring and cap. The seals are pre-lubricated at the
factory using an advanced space age lubricant.
It is
EXTREMELY
IMPORTANT
TO NEVER USE A PETROLEUM PRODUCT
SUCH AS VASELINE®
to lubricate the seals. The Electralume
®
is made from a UV treated polycarbonate and will react with
petroleum products destroying the light.
Only use Dupont®
Krytox® available from Lindgren-Pitman. Should the seals show any
signs of wear or become stiff they should be replaced with genuine
Lindgren-Pitman o-rings of the proper size and durometer. Please
note that the slightest defect or debris in the o-ring or between the
mating surfaces could cause a leak!
2.
Use only a mild detergent such as dishwashing liquid to clean the
light. For best results soak then rinse with fresh water and thoroughly
dry. A diluted bleach solution may also be used. Never use abrasive
pads or cleaners as they will scratch the surface of the light and reduce
the light output.
Never use lacquer thinner, lighter fluid, acetone,
or any other type of petroleum product to clean the light as it will
permanently damage the material from which it is made. Bait dye
will stain the light.
3.
Use only new matching AA’s batteries in pairs when replacing
batteries. Any type of standard brand name alkaline AA batteries may
be used, but to get the most possible light use Energizer lithium as
supplied when new. To replace batteries rotate the cap counter-
clockwise past the stop to open the light, pull up and remove the cap
to expose the battery compartment. Since LED’s are sensitive to
polarity make sure batteries are correctly installed, otherwise the light
will not function.
We highly recommend using only brand name
AA batteries replaced in pairs as a leaking battery will destroy the
Electralume
®. Replace cap and rotate to the
Auto/Off
position.
Lindgren-Pitman cannot be held liable for damage caused by leaking
batteries.
4.
If the Electralume® is not going to be used for a long time please
remove the batteries to prevent any chance of damage from leaking
batteries.
