Road Armor

 Tandem Axle OEM Installation

System Information

The Lippert Components, Inc. Road Armor

Equalizer features a new, stamped steel design integrating both time-

proven natural rubber inserts and oil-impregnated bushings for a smoother movement. The Road Armor Equalizer

was designed as a "drop-in" replacement for a standard equalizer setup, which means that there is no additional

drilling or welding needed for installation.

Safety Information

Ensure that the trailer is properly supported before performing any trailer work. Follow the trailer

manufacturer's recommendations for lifting and supporting the trailer. Use proper personal protective

Installation

NotE:

Reference Fig. 1 for component clarification during installation.

1.

Install the Road Armor Equalizer into the center frame hanger. The Road Armor Equalizer label should

be facing out.

2.

Install the equalizer bolt through the equalizer hanger outside plate, the top most bronze equalizer

bushing, and through the equalizer hanger inside plate.

3.

Use a hammer or a piece of steel tube (for bolts with a grease fitting) and drive the bolt into the

equalizer hanger outside plate, until the bolt head is seated against the hanger surface.

4.

Both the shackle bolts and equalizer bolt must be installed from the outside in towards the center of

the trailer chassis. This ensures that the bolt threads do not interfere with any other assemblies. This

applies to bolts with or without grease fittings.

5.

Thread a nut onto the exposed equalizer bolt thread until the nut seats against the hanger. Tighten the

nut until it bottoms out on the bolt shoulder at 30-50 ft-lb.

6.

Place the axles into the normal operating position.

7.

Attach the new shackle links with shackle bolts and mounting nuts.

8.

Tighten the nuts until they bottom out on the bolt shoulder at 30-50 ft-lb.

9.

Lower the trailer chassis, axles and wheel assemblies evenly to the ground.

10.

To ensure that the shackle links do not flip either up or down, lower the trailer with even weight

distribution and without any jarring movements. The trailer
