Running your train

Operating your locomotive’s E-unit

Y

our locomotive is equipped with a mechanical E-unit. The E-unit allows the locomotive
to cycle through its operational states (forward, neutral, reverse, neutral, and so on) with

interruptions in track power.

The E-unit can be disconnected by sliding the E-unit lever to its OFF position. With the

lever in the OFF position, the locomotive will not change directions after being stopped;
instead, it will resume operation in the same state when power is restored.

Follow these steps to lock the E-unit in a single operational state:

1.   Use the throttle or the direction button to cycle the locomotive into your desired

operational state (forward, neutral, or reverse).

2.   Stop the locomotive with your hand or turn off track power.

Do not use the direction button to stop the locomotive.

3.   Slide the E-unit lever to the OFF position.

The locomotive is now locked into your desired operational state.

If you slide the E-unit lever to the OFF position while the locomotive is in neutral,
the locomotive will not run at all. Also, because the E-unit is operated partly by
gravity, it will not work properly if the locomotive is held upside-down.
