Wireless Communication for New Zealand
The VRI main control can be connected to the internet in one of three ways:
1. Wireless connection to an existing network
2. Wired (CAT 6 or CAT 5 cable) connection to an existing network
3. GSM cellular connection
For data usage reference, a typical VRI controller which has logging enabled will use around 50 to 1000 mb in a
month. This will depend on how long the system operates each day, as well as the number of sprinklers on the
system.
Wireless equipment is supplied pre-configured. However, if this needs to be changed, refer to the equipment
manufacturer’s instructions on “Wireless Network Setup”.
The wireless connection uses a set of Ubiquiti NanoStations® to allow connection to an existing network. Na-
noStations require a direct line of sight between stations, with no obstructions in the way. The NanoStation con-
nects directly to the VRI control panel and directly into a router or switch on the existing local network.
If a repeater station is required, a Ubiquiti
Bullet® is offered. This is a smaller version
of the Nanostation with an omnidirectional
antenna. In such a scenario, only power
from a POE (Power Over Ethernet) adapter
is required.
1. Install the NanoStations on the pivot
and building with a clear line of sight
between the two, and pointed directly at
each other.
