Set the operation mode. Press SETUP key, position 11 Set Op Mode on the top line,
ENTER. Use

to display ‘1 sensor X’ on the top line, ENTER. You are then
prompted for the sequence of above and below readings:

means above canopy
reading,
↓
means below canopy reading. If needed, set a new sequence and press
ENTER. Choose the number of repetitions (reps) which is the number of times you
whish to repeat the pattern for one complete measurement.
3. Logging data and computing LAI.
Press LOG, this initiates the process of collecting the necessary above and below
measurements to calculate LAI.
Respond to the two prompts (1) What (which crop) and (2) Where (plot)
N.B.: While logging in ‘1 sensor X’ mode, one line of the display is in real time, the other is
the summary line. These lines will change positions with the position of the real time
line indicating whether the next reading is to be an above canopy, or below canopy
reading See figure 2. The * is always on the real time line. When the real-time line is
on the top of the display, the number to the left of the * indicates the number of above
canopy readings thus far. When the real-time line is on the bottom of the display, the
number to the left of the * indicates the number of below canopy readings thus far. If
wanted, the channel ID can be changed by

is at the bottom of the display). This is only needed when more than one optical sensor
is connected.
The summary line displays three numbers summarizing the measurement. (1) the
number of the above/ below pairs that have been accepted (SMP) (2) The running
average of LAI (LAI) (3) the standard error (SEL)
