SUGGESTIONS ON FOOD STORAGE
STORING FOOD
i
Store fresh food in the refrigerator and the freezer. Defrosting is an important factor in preserving
freshness and flavor.
i
Do not store food that can decompose under low temperatures such as bananas,
melons
or pineapple.
i
Allow hot food to cool before storing it. Placing hot food in the refrigerator damages other food
and increases energy consumption.
i
When storing food, wrap it with vinyl film or store it in closed containers. This prevents food moisture
from evaporating and keeps food fresh.
i
Do not obstruct the cold air outlets with food. The cold air flow keeps the refrigerator temperature even.
i
Do not open the door frequently. Opening the door allows hot air into the refrigerator, raising the
temperature.
i
To adjust the temperature controls easily, keep the area near the controls clear.
i
Do not store glass bottles in the freezer - they can
break
when frozen.
i
Do not freeze food that has been already
thawed. They may lose their nutritional properties.
i
When storing frozen food for a long period, such as ice cream, place it on the shelves and not in
the door baskets.
REFRIGERATOR
i
Avoid storing high humidity foods at the back of the refrigerator. They could freeze in contact with
the cold air. Store in a closed container instead.
i
Always clean food before refrigerating it. Fruits and vegetables should be washed and dried.
Packaged food should be dried to avoid contaminating adjacent items.
i
Store eggs on the highest shelf in the refrigerator.
