Document scanning from the ADF
Media is fed through the action of the paper pick and feed rollers. It enters the scan area and is ejected by the
exit roller. For a duplex document sheet, the image on side 1 and the image on side 2 are scanned at the same
time in the same pass.
Note:
Only Pro5500 supports two-sided scanning.
Described below is the overview of the steps before document scanning and that of simplex and duplex
scanning modes.
Setting a document
When a document is set on the ADF tray and the leading edge is pushed into the tray until it stops, the paper
load sensor gives a signal to the machine that the document is loaded. The DC motor will rotate.
Preparation to Feed
First the pick roller moves down and presses the document on the document tray to enable document feed. The
pick roller moves down with the normal rotation of the ADF feed drive motor assembly and it moves up with the
reverse rotation of the latter.
Feed
Touching the
moves the pick roller assembly down; powers on, and rotates the pick and separation rollers
to feed the media. The pick roller will turn to force the media between the nip of the separation roller and the
separation pad to prevent multiple feeds. Media continues to be fed through the nip of the feed and idle rollers.
