Fluid system
Function and components
The function of the fluid system is to transfer ink from the ink tanks to the printhead via the ink tubes. It is
composed of the following main components:
•
Peristaltic Pump
This is a positive displacement type of pump used for pumping out a variety of fluids. It uses a rotor
with rollers attached to the internal circumference that compresses the flexible tube during turning.
•
Vacuum Canister
This is used to build up pressure coming from the peristaltic pump.
•
Maintenance Pinch Valves (MPV)
The MPV is composed of a motor, sensor, fingers and keys. It is a device that controls the flow of
vacuum pressure, air, and fluid by opening or closing the valves.
•
Maintenance Cap
It is a rubber cap that is used to cover the printhead nozzles when it is on the maintenance station,
idle mode, or when the system is turned off. It is also used to prime the nozzles during initial priming.
•
Ink supply Pinch Valves (IPV)
It functions similarly with the MPV. It is located on the top of the tank receiver and controls the
following tubes:
–
Cyan tube
–
Magenta tube
–
Yellow tube
–
Black tube
–
Pressure tube for the (Back Pressure Device) BPD
–
Pressure tube for the printhead
•
Pressure Regulator
This is responsible for regulating the pressure to 1 to 1.5 psi, which is required by the BPD and
printhead inlet to prevent damage.
•
tank Receiver
This holds the ink tanks in place.
•
Back Pressure Device (BPD)
This is a device used for ink level sensing. It uses needles and circuit continuity to detect if ink level is
low.
