5. Open the card latch as shown. Then, grasp a PCIe card by its edges and carefully pull it out of the
PCI Express card slot.
Note:
The PCIe card fits tightly into the PCI Express card slot. If necessary, alternate moving each side
of the PCIe card a small and equal amount until it is completely removed from the slot.

6. Install a new PCIe card to replace the old one or install a PCIe card slot bracket to cover the place. See
“Installing a PCIe card” on page 63.
7. If you are instructed to return the old PCIe card, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging
materials that are supplied to you for shipping.
Installing a PCIe card
To install a PCIe card, do the following:
1. Prepare your server and remove the server cover. See “Preparing your server in advance and removing
2. Lay the server on its side for easier operation.
3. Locate a PCIe slot on the system board for installing a PCIe card. See “System board components” on
page 33 to identify the different types of PCIe slots in your server.
