Non-hot-swap drive
This topic applies only to server models that support non-hot-swap drives. See “Features and specifications
of your server” on page 7 for more information about the supported non-hot-swap drives.

The EMI integrity and cooling of the server are protected by having all drive bays covered or occupied.
The number of the installed HDDs in your server varies depending on the server model. The vacant bays
are covered by an EMI-protective panel.
Attention:
An unoccupied drive bay without any other protection might impact the EMI integrity and cooling
of the server, which might result in overheating or component damage. To maintain the EMI integrity and
cooling of the server, install a new non-hot-swap drive as soon as you remove the failing one.
HDD installation rules:
• Follow the order of the HDD drive bays when installing an HDD. See “Server components” on page 19
to locate the HDD bays in your server.
• For RAID configuration, the HDDs must be the same type with the same capacity if they are within a single
RAID array. For more information, see “Configuring RAID” on page 44.
• For HDDs with different capacities, install the HDD by following the order of the HDD bays as well as the
order from the lowest capacity to the highest capacity.
Removing a non-hot-swap drive
To remove a non-hot-swap drive, do the following:
1. Prepare your server and remove the server cover. See “Preparing your server in advance and removing
2. Use the front door key to unlock the front door (available on some models), and then open the front
door. The non-hot-swap drives are installed in the lower drive cage.
3. Remove the front system fan 1. See “Installing the front system fan 1” on page 94.
4. Locate the appropriate drive bay. Then, disconnect the SATA signal cable and the power cable from the
rear of the non-hot-swap drive. See “Front view of the server” on page 13.
