
Replacing the heat sink
Attention:
Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 “Read this first: Important safety information” on page 1.
CAUTION:
The heat sink might be very hot. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer and
wait several minutes until the computer is cool.
To replace the heat sink, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover” on page 108.
3. Remove the system fan. See “Replacing the system fan” on page 110.
4. Remove the internal speaker. See “Replacing the internal speaker” on page 112.
5. Remove the internal speaker holder. See “Replacing the internal speaker holder” on page 114.
6. Loosen the four screws that secure the heat sink to the system board in the following sequence, and
then lift out the heat sink to remove it from the system board:
a. Partially remove screw

, and then fully remove screw

b. Partially remove screw

, then fully remove screw

, and then fully remove screw

Notes:
• Carefully remove the four screws from the system board to avoid any possible damage to the system
board. The four screws cannot be removed from the heat sink.
• Do not touch the thermal grease while handling the heat sink.
