Short Side - Figure B
Long Side - Figure C
Step #1
To determine the 2 × 4 length for
the short side, combine the total
length of the patio stones (figure B)
less 5" plus twice the patio stone
thickness. As patio stones vary in
thickness this formula should be
used for ease of measuring.
Step #2
To determine the 2 × 4 length for
the long side, combine the length
of the patio stones (figure C) and
add 1-1/2" (ie. if using 3 × 18" patio
stones you would need a 55-1/2"
long 2 × 4).
Step #3
After determining the lengths for
the lumber in steps 1 and 2, cut 4
lengths for the long side and 4
lengths for the short side (this is
the amount of lumber required to
build the top and bottom frames for
the planter). Place the 4 cut pieces
of one frame (bottom frame) on a
level surface and following Fig A,
attach 4 of the XK653 corner
brackets (once these brackets are
added you will have a perfect
frame with 90° angles). Next, position
the XK655 joint brackets, spacing
them to be in the middle of where the
patio stones meet. Attach them with
the bolt holes facing towards the inside
of the planter and their outside edges
(outside of planter) in line with the
outside tab of the XK653 corner
brackets (figure D). This will ensure
your planter walls are straight. Build the
second frame in an identical manner.
