PTO Shaft Range Verification
CAUTION!
It is important to verify that the PTO shaft falls within the proper operating range to ensure
safe operation of the Articulator under varying cutting conditions.
Follow the procedures listed below in sequence to verify operation of the Articulator within
the proper range of the PTO shaft:
1.
Complete the Mounting The Articulator To The Tractor section of this manual BEFORE
performing the PTO shaft range verification procedures.
2.
Take the tractor and Articulator to your most extreme terrain you will be cutting - such as a
ditch or hilly area. DO NOT ENGAGE THE PTO.
3.
Turn off the tractor, disengage the PTO, shift the transmission into neutral, and set the
parking brake.
4.
Disconnect the PTO shaft from the tractor.
5.
Drive the tractor onto the extreme terrain you have chosen. Stop at a point where the trac-
tor is headed uphill and the Articulator is headed downhill, at the point where the PTO
shaft spans the valley of the hills with the tractor and Articulator at their closest point. This
should represent your maximum PTO shaft compression. (An example would be in a
ditch with the tractor heading up one side and the Articulator heading down the opposing
side).
6.
Turn off the tractor, disengage the PTO, shift the transmission into neutral, and set the
parking brake.
7.
Reconnect the PTO shaft to the tractor.
8.
If the PTO shaft is too long to allow easy reconnection, you will need to either cut your
PTO shorter, or utilize a shorter PTO.
9.
If the PTO shaft can be easily reconnected, then your maximum compression is within the
proper range of your PTO shaft. Now you will need to check the maximum extension of
your PTO shaft.
10.
Position the tractor so it is headed downhill. Stop with the tractor headed down one side
of the hill and the Articulator headed up the other side, at the point where the PTO shaft
spans the crest of the hill with the tractor and Articulator at their furthest point from one
