About Resolution Values
Sound recordings are saved with 16-bit resolution which provides a measurement range of
about 90 dB. This means that the 831C is capable of recording sound signals with
amplitudes no more than 90 dB below the level at which the selected range will overload.
Adjusting Peak Overload
During calibration, the 831C automatically calculates the peak overload based on the
current microphone type. To ensure the calibration will be accurate, do the following:

values for upper and lower limits for
any given microphone. We recommend using the
Normal
range for sound
recordings unless you anticipate that recorded sounds will exceed 110dBA. In
that case, choose

range.
