Fail-Over Settings
Fail-over Gateway
IP Address
An alternate IP address of the router for this network, to be used if an IP address
usually accessible through the default gateway fails to return one or more pings.
Note:
Note: the fail-over gateway is not supported when DHCP is used on the
primary interface, as fail-back needs a consistent IP address to use for updating the
routing table.
If a Fail-over Gateway is configured, the
Default Gateway
must be configured for
fail-over and fail-back to work properly (gateways acquired via DHCP can change or
be removed).
When Eth2 is used as the
Fail-over Port
the Fail-over Gateway IP Address must be
in the same subnet as the Eth2 network.
When Internal modem is used as the Fail-over Port, the Fail-over Gateway IP
Address should be set to the Remote IP address for the PPP connection.
When Cellular or WLAN is used as the Fail-over Port (EMG models only), the Fail-
over Gateway IP Address should be set to the IP address of the cellular or WLAN
interface.
See
Fail-over Port
for specific requirements for configuring each type of port/
interface. If the cellular modem is configured for DHCP, when the IP address of the
cellular modem changes, the IP address of the Fail-over Gateway will be
automatically updated to be the same as the new cellular modem IP address.
IP Address to Ping to
Trigger Fail-over
IP address to ping to determine whether to use the fail-over gateway.
Ethernet Port for
Ping
Ethernet port to use for the ping.
Delay between Pings
Number of seconds between pings. The default is 3.
Number of Failed
Pings
Number of pings that fail before the EMG uses the fail-over gateway. The default is
10.
