Field Update of Console Server 3200 Flash Memory
B.1 Introduction
The system administrator may desire to update the software held in flash memory. The
modem, terminal, network, device, and control cards all have field-programmable flash
memory. Switch cards are not programmable in the field.
The flash software may be updated by two means: through a direct serial connection, or
via network.

There are two hardware versions of the control, terminal, and device cards: those with a
40-pin ROM containing the boot code, and those with flash only. The easiest way to tell
the difference is by looking at the card surface. If there is a large 40-pin ROM mounted
in a socket on the card, then it is the ROM/flash version. There are two different
versions of the flash update files corresponding to the two hardware versions. The files
prefaced with an "f" are for the flash-only versions, while those prefaced with an "r" are
for the ROM/flash versions of the cards. The ConsoleServer will reject the update if the
incorrect file is sent. Simply send the other file version if the first file is rejected.
NOTE:
To determine if the control card is capable of receiving Kermit protocol uploads, enter
