Practice all standard industrial safety
standards. Do not load any payload that will
overload any component of the trailer or
cause an unsafe condition.

Park the tractor/semitrailer in a straight
line on level even surface. Set the tractor
brakes and release the semitrailer brakes
(See Figure 3-9)
. Chock trailer wheels.

Engage the hydraulic pump.

to the up position, raising the
semitrailer until a clearance of 1 inch is ob-
tained between the load blocks and the
semitrailer.

to the up position, rais-
ing the load blocks up into the gooseneck.

to the down position, lowering
the semitrailer to the ground and until a
clearance of 1/4 inch has been obtained be-
tween the load plate eyes and the load pins.

Disconnect the air and electrical service
lines from the semitrailer to the gooseneck
and store in the storage compartment pro-
vided in the driver’s side approach plate.

Pull the gooseneck lock handle out to
the release position.

Move the
GOOSENECK LIFTARM LE-
VER (See Section 3-9)
to the down position
until the gooseneck liftarm rests on the trac-
tor frames rearmost crossmember. Do not lift
the gooseneck.

Pull the tractor forward a few inches
and determine that the gooseneck has de-
tached from the semitrailer. If the gooseneck
does not detach from the semitrailer, repeat
steps 3-20.8 and 3-21.10.

When gooseneck does detach from
trailer, proceed to pull the tractor away from
the semitrailer.
