Tree/Post Puller Hook-up & Unhooking
Figure 1-1
Equipment Clearances
Refer to Figure 1-1:
It is important to check clearance before putting the Tree/
Post Puller into service. Make sure hoses are long
enough and won’t become pinched or entangled.
1.
Visually inspect hydraulic hoses for possible pinch
points or shortness. Make hose adjustments before
operating hydraulics to check clearances.
2.
Start skid steer and raise puller approximately 30" off
the ground.
3.
If necessary, have someone stand nearby that can
motion for the operator to stop if a problem develops.
4.
Fully extend and retract hydraulic cylinders on end of
loader arms while watching for interferences
between loader arms and Tree/Post Puller. Stop
movement if hydraulic hoses are starting to stretch,
kink, pinch, or become entangled.
5.
Raise puller fully up and repeat step 4.
6.
Lower puller to about 12" off the ground.
Purge Hydraulic System
Refer to Figure 1-1:
1.
With puller raised off the ground about 12", cycle
hydraulic cylinder (#4) from fully extended to fully
retracted and back until cylinder operates smoothly.

IMPORTANT:
The hydraulic cylinder and/or hoses
can contain air and should be purged before use.
Not purging hydraulic cylinder and hoses of air can
cause uneven, jerky cylinder movement.
Purge Hydraulic System
Figure 1-2
Refer to Figure 1-2:
2.
If cylinder (#9) operates unevenly after cycling it
several times, purge hydraulic system as follows:
a. Remove cotter pin (#4) and clevis pin (#5).
b. Rotate cylinder rod (#9) out as shown.
c. Remove cotter pin (#4) and cylinder pin (#6).
d. Slide cylinder shield (#3) over end of cylinder
rod (#9) to expose elbow fittings (#7 & #8).
e. Replace clevis pin (#6) without cotter pin (#4).
f. Loosen elbow fitting (#7) from cylinder port “A”.
g. Slowly retract and extend hydraulic cylinder
rod (#9) to purge trapped air from the system.
h. After all trapped air is removed, tighten elbow
fitting (#7) to cylinder port “A”.
i. Loosen elbow fitting (#8) from cylinder port “B”.
j. Slowly retract and extend hydraulic cylinder
rod (#9) to purge trapped air from the system.
k. After all trapped air is removed, tighten elbow
fitting (#8) to cylinder port “B”.
l. Pull clevis pin (#6) and slide cylinder shield (#3)
over cylinder rod (#9).
m. Attach cylinder shield (#3) and cylinder
base (#10) to hitch frame (#1) with clevis pin (#6).
n. Attach rod end (#9) to jaw (#2) with clevis pin (#5).
o. Insert both cotter pins (#4) and bend one or both
legs of each cotter pin to keep them from falling
out.
