Gearbox Lubrication
Refer to Figure 4-6:
Check gearbox oil level before first use and after the first
10 hours of use. Thereafter, check oil level before each
use. Change gearbox oil after each 200 hours of use.
Type of Lubrication: Gear Lube EP 80-90W
Quantity = Fill until oil flows out of the oil level hole (#1).
WARNING
!
To prevent serious injury or death:
Always shut tractor down using “Tractor Shutdown
Procedure” provided in this manual before servicing,
adjusting, cleaning, or maintaining this implement.
CAUTION
!
To prevent serious injury:
•
Never attempt to drain oil from the level inspection port by
tilting the machine. This is extremely dangerous as it may
cause the machine to overturn.
•
A gearbox that has been operating may be too hot to touch.
Allow the gearbox to cool before working around it.
Check Oil Level
1. Shut tractor down according to
on page 12 before dismounting tractor.
2. Remove level plug (#1). The oil should reach the
lower edge of the plug hole.
3. If oil level is below the lower edge, skip to
below. Otherwise, continue with step 4.
4. If oil level is OK, refit and tighten plug (#1). When
included, make sure the seal washer fits correctly.
Add Oil
above for type of
lubricant to add to the gearbox.
2. With the implement on flat, level ground and the
tractor shutdown correctly, unscrew fill cap (#2).
3. Fill the gearbox with the specified oil using a funnel
until the oil reaches the lower edge of inspection
port (#1).
Do not Overfill!
4. Refit and tighten level inspection plug (#1). When
included, make sure the seal washer fits correctly.
5. Refit and tighten fill cap (#2).
IMPORTANT:
Use oils with characteristics identical
to those specified under
above.
IMPORTANT:
The mower should be level when
checking the oil level in the gearbox.
Do not overfill the gearbox with oil. Oil
will expand when hot. Make sure the implement is
level and oil is cool before checking oil level.
Oil Level, Fill, & Drain Plugs
Figure 4-6
Replace Gearbox Oil
1. Shut tractor down according to
on page 12 before dismounting tractor.
2. Place a oil collection pan under drain plug (#3).
3. Remove level plug (#1), drain plug (#3), and unscrew
fill cap (#2).
4. Once all the used oil has drained, refit and tighten
drain plug (#3). When included, make sure the seal
washer fits correctly.
5. Fill gearbox with oil to the bottom of oil level plug
hole (#1) with new oil of the same type specified
6. Refit and tighten oil level plug (#1) and fill cap (#2).
When included, make sure the seal washer fits
correctly.

IMPORTANT:
Use a siphon pump rated for oil to
completely empty the gearbox of oil. Attempting to
drain the oil from the level inspection port (#1) or
from drain hole (#3) by tilting the implement may
result in injury or damage to the implement.
