Skid Shoe Replacement
Refer to Figure 4-5:

To prevent serious injury or death:

To replace the skid shoes, lift the machine with suitable
lifting equipment, taking all safety precautions necessary.
•
If suitable lifting equipment is not available, support blocks
may be placed under the roller and park stands to support
the skid shoes off the ground.
WARNING

To prevent serious injury or death:
Always shut tractor down using “Tractor Shutdown
Procedure” provided in this manual before servicing,
adjusting, cleaning, or maintaining this implement.
The shoes protect the implement against direct contact
with the ground. These are subject to wear and must be
replaced immediately when worn to prevent damage to
the other parts of the implement.
Check and replace skid shoes when necessary.
Proceed as follows:
1. Park tractor and mower on a flat, level surface.
2. Lower the mower until the roller is slightly off the
ground.
3. Without changing the lift height, shut tractor down
according to
4. Lower park stands and secure them in place.
5. Restart tractor and lower the mower until the rear
roller and park stands are resting on the ground.
6. Support the flail head off the ground with a hoist or
support blocks as follows:
Using a Hoist:
a. Attach a hoist with a suitable lift capacity to the
identified lift points on the flail mower. Refer to
“Permitted Hoist Lifting Points”
b. Lift the mower until the skid shoes are off the
ground far enough to remove the bolts out from
under the shoes.
Using Support Blocks:
a. Place two support blocks, approximately 2" (5 cm)
thick or more, directly behind the roller with one
block near the left end of the roller and the other
block near the right end of the roller.
b. Place two more support blocks of equal thickness
directly behind the two park stands.
c. Restart the tractor and lift the mower slightly
above the support blocks and back the mower
over the support blocks.
d. Lower the mower until the roller and park stands
are resting on the support blocks.
e. Shut tractor down according to

Remove nuts and washers (#2), bolts (#3), and skid
shoes (#1).
8. Attach new skid shoes (#1) with existing or new
bolts (#3), and washers (#2).
9. Tighten nuts to the correct torque.
10. Restart tractor and raise mower slightly off the
ground or support blocks.
