ISDN - Non-Secure Call Hold
You may use the ISDN “Call Hold” function to place STE calls on hold. To place a call on hold, press the
HOLD
button. When a call has been placed on hold, the
CALL
indicator associated with the call placed
on hold will flash (0.2 seconds on, 0.8 seconds off).
•
If your ISDN switch supports hold, once a call has been placed on hold you may place or answer
other calls. To retrieve a call from hold, press the
CALL
button associated with that call.
•
If your ISDN switch does not support hold, the STE will implement a "Terminal Hold". You cannot
place or answer other calls while in "Terminal Hold" (if you attempt to access a second call, you
will get a "Terminal Resources Not Available" message on your display). To retrieve the call from
hold, press the
CALL
button associated with the call.
7-3.5
ISDN - Secure Call Hold
You may place your secure voice call on hold and then retrieve that call from hold and return to a secure
state. The actions are the same as those used for non-secure on-hold described in Paragraph
However, there are additional displays used to report the secure hold status. The following Table
summarizes both the STE near-end (your STE) and far-end displays, when secure-hold is successful and
unsuccessful. When entering the “failed” displays, a Bad Beep is also sounded.
Party
Secure On-Hold Achieved
Secure On-Hold Failed
Near-end
CALL ON HOLD
SECURE CALL FAILED
Far-end
CALL PUT ON HOLD
Not Applicable
Party
Secure Off-Hold Achieved
Secure Off-Hold Failed
Near-end
(Return to secure voice)
SECURE CALL FAILED or
CALL PLACEMENT NOT
POSSIBLE
Far-end
(Return to secure voice)
Not Applicable
NOTE
You may see two possible displays in a “Secure Off-Hold Failed” condition.
“SECURE CALL FAILED” is displayed when signaling negotiations between your
STE and the far-end failed. “CALL PLACEMENT NOT POSSIBLE” is displayed
when there are not adequate STE resources to resume the call. This may occur
when there is another secure or non-secure voice call active, or if there are no
available ISDN B channels.
When you place a secure call on hold, the far-end user has limited options. The far-end user is not able
to take the call off-hold, and may only (1) wait for the near-end to return to the call (take the call off-hold),
or (2) go on-hook and disconnect the call.
You may also place your secure call on hold and maintain the connection by first transitioning to non-
secure voice and then going on-hold. When you take the call off hold, you must renegotiate a secure
connection.
Removing the User Card while in secure-hold will cause the STE to disconnect the call and go into alarm.
This action should be avoided if possible.
7-3.6
