1 – GENERAL INFORMATION
A) Users must read and perfectly understand the information provided by the manufacturer (hereinafter
'information') before using the product. Warning: this information relates to the characteristics, services,
assembly, disassembly, maintenance, conservation, disinfection, etc of the product, even though it does
include some suggestions on how to use the products, it must not be considered as a true to life instruction
manual (the same as a use and maintenance handbook for a car that does not teach how to drive it and does
not replace the driving school). Warning: climbing rocks and ice, abseiling, via ferrata, speleology, alpine
skiing, canyoning, exploration, rescue work, tree climbing and works at a height are all activities with a high
degree of risk, possibly leading to accidents and even death. Avoid using this product if you are not in a
position to undertake these responsibilities and assume these risks. You will completely undertake alone all
risks and liabilities against any damages, injuries or death possibility incurred by you yourself or third parties
from using any of our products, no matter what type they may be. Learn how to use this product and make sure
you have thoroughly understood how it works and its limits, in doubt never take any risks but ask. Remember
that:
- this product shall be used by trained skilled persons only otherwise the user shall be constantly supervised by
said persons, who shall guarantee for their safety,
- you are personally responsible for knowing this product, learning how to use it and all the safety precautions
involved.
B) Carry out all the controls described in the specific product-related information before and after use and
particularly make sure that the product is:
- in perfect condition and works well,
suited to the use you want to make of it, you are responsible for the proper use of this product: techniques
without the cross only are allowed, any other usage is forbidden: risk of death!
Keep a “control card” recording the results of controls.
C) If you have any doubts about the product's safety and working conditions, replace it immediately. Do not use
the product any more after a fall as any internal damage or deformation not visible from outside could have
considerably reduced the strength. Improper use, mechanical deformation, accidentally dropping the
equipment from a height, wear, chemical contamination, exposure to beyond the normal climatic conditions
(metal products only: -30/+100°C – products with textile parts: -30/+50°C), are a few examples of other causes
possibly reducing, limiting and even terminating the product's service life.
Your life depends on the constant efficiency of your equipment (we would earnestly recommend equipment for
personal use only) and its history (use, storage, controls, etc.).
D) This product can be used combined with personal protective equipment conforming to Directive
89/686/EEC when compatible with the relevant information of the product. When you intend to combine two (or
more) products read carefully the information.
E) The anchor position is essential for a safety fall arrest: carefully assess the free height under the user
(clearance), height of a potential fall, rope paid out and the “pendulum” effect in order to avoid all possible
obstacles (e.g. ground, material rubbing against the rock face, etc..).
F) Resistance of anchors point, either natural or fixed into the rock, is not always granted and therefore it is
essential for the user to carefully judge the situation beforehand to guarantee adequate protection.
G) It is strictly forbidden to modify and/or repair the product: The Manufacturer shall not be held liable for any
damages, injuries or death caused by: improper use, product modifications, repairs by unauthorized persons
or use of non-original spare parts
H) During transportation avoid exposure to U.V. radiations and sources of heat and avoid contact with chemical
reagents or other corrosive substances, and adequately protect any pointed or sharp parts. Warning: never
leave your equipment in a car under the sun!
I) For the sake of your own safety, it is essential to make sure that the product was sold to the public: complete,
in their original packaging and with the relative information. It is compulsory for dealers selling products in
countries other than the original destination to check and supply the translation of this information.
L) This product has been tested and inspected piece by piece in conformity with the Quality System certified to
the UNI EN ISO 9001 international standard. Personal protective equipment is certified by the notified body
indicated in the relevant product instructions. Warning: laboratory tests, inspections, information and norms do
not always manage to reproduce what actually happens in practice so that the performances under real
conditions when using the product in a natural environment can often differ considerably. The best information
can be gained by continual practice under the supervision of skilled and qualified instructors.
2 – WORKS AT A HEIGHT
Additional information for protective equipment against falls from a height
For the sake of safety in case of falls from a height, it is essential to:
assess the risks and make sure that the whole safety system, where this device is only a component, is reliable
and safe;
- prepare a rescue plan to deal with any emergencies possibly arising while the device is being used,
- make sure that work is done in such way as to reduce potential falls and relevant heights to a minimum,
- make sure that the fall arrest systems conform to the EN 363 standard, and especially that:
- the anchor point conforms to the EN 795 norm, guarantees minimum strength of 10 kN and is placed
preferably above the user,
- that the parts being used are suitable and certified conforming to the standards applicable to the specific
works at a height that you are going to perform.
Important: A fall arrest device mandatorily requires the use of a complete harness as per applicable norms.
3 – MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
Product maintenance consists of:
- cleaning: frequently wash the product with lukewarm (max. 40°C) drinking-water where necessary, you can
also add some gentle detergent. Rinse and leave to dry naturally away from direct sources of heat, do not
centrifuge.
- disinfection (if necessary): soak the product for an hour in lukewarm water adding disinfectant, then rinse
again with drinking-water, dry and lubricate. Avoid autoclave sterilization for textiles.
- lubrication (for metallic products only): frequently lubricate the mobile parts with silicone based oil. Avoid
contact between oil and textile parts. This job must be done after cleaning and completely drying.
Storage: after cleaning, drying and lubrication place the loose equipment in a dry (40-90% relative humidity),
fresh (temperature 5-40°C) and safe (avoid U.V. radiation) place, chemically neutral (absolutely avoid salty
environs), away from sharp edges, sources of heat, dampness, corrosive substances or other possible
detrimental conditions. Do not store when wet!
4 – PERIODIC INSPECTIONS
We would also strongly advise having pre and post use controls carried out by qualified persons. Unless
otherwise specified by stricter provisions of law, it is recommended to have a competent person to perform an
accurate product inspection on an annual basis. Periodic inspections results shall be recorded in the product
control card. A control card shall be provided for each component, subsystem and system (please find a
sample attached). Periodic inspections shall as well check that product marks are clearly legible.
5 – PRODUCT LIFE
Read point 1C very carefully. Lifetime of metallic devices is theoretically unlimited while lifetime of textile or
plastic devices is of 10 years from the production date under the following conditions: maintenance and
storage are made as described at point 3; pre use, after use and periodic controls do not show any malfunction,
deformation, wear, etc., the device has been correctly used not exceeding ¼ of the breaking load. Do not use
obsolete devices, (i.e.: expired lifetime, lacking of periodic control-card with updated registration, non
conforming to norms, not suitable or compatible to the present techniques, etc.). Reject devices which are
obsolete, deformed, wear off, not properly working, etc. destroying them in order to avoid any future use.
6 – OBLIGATIONS OF LAW
Work, sport and professional activities are often governed by specific national laws that may impose limitation
and/or obligations in the use of PPE and of SAFETY SYSTEM (of which PPE are components). Users and
instructors shall know and apply the laws that might impose obligations different from those indicated in this
information.
7 – GUARANTEE
The Manufacturer guaranties the conformity of supplied goods to agreed specifications. The guarantee
covering faults is limited to production defects and raw materials: it does not include wear and tear, oxidation,
damages caused by improper use and/or during competition, no correct maintenance, transport, storage, etc.;
it decays immediately in case of modifications or alterations of the product. Validity corresponds to the legal
guarantee of the country in which the product was sold (max 3 years) and shall be effective from the selling date
by the Manufacturer. No claims may be lodged against the Manufacturer after such term has elapsed. Any
request of reparation must be accompanied by documentary evidence of the date of purchase. If the defect is
recognized, the Manufacturer, at its only discretion, will repair or replace or refund the product. In no case the
Manufacturer's liability will exceed to the invoiced price.
8 – SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The category III Personal Protective Equipment, 206.020 (fig. 1) is a multiple span anchoring device with any
corner, that conforms to the EN 795:2012 class C norm. It uses a flexible anchoring line that is suitable for
simultaneous use by 2 people, in accordance with the CEN/TS 16415:2013 technical specifications.
Nomenclature of parts and related materials (fig. 1): (A) - Flexible polyester anchoring line, (A1) – (A2)
Connecting eyelets, (B) - Galvanised steel device for tensioning the anchoring line, (B1) Tensioning device
lever, (B2) Safety catch on the locking lever, (C) -
Mild steel connectors with minimum breaking load
of 40 kN (not included in the device) - (D) Nylon bag
to contain the device.
Please note, this device is suitable for use:
- In situations that do not call for a permanent
anchoring line along the same route.
- In a system to prevent falls from height. In this
case the user must be equipped with a device that
limits the impact forces, due to arresting a fall, to a
maximum of 6 kN (e.g. energy absorber).
Important: read point 8.2 carefully.
- Horizontally, with a maximum angle of 15° in
relation to the plain, including any corners that may
be created adjacent to intermediate supports (fig.
2).
- For both single and multiple spans (length
between 2 and 20 metres), but without any corners
(fig. 3).
- By 1 person between two intermediate points (one span) and by 2 people on the complete device (fig. 4).
Note: The flexible anchoring line must not be used for hanging materials or lifting equipment.
The maximum loads transmitted by the device installed with a tension (Ti) of 150 kg to the end anchors (AL
max) and the maximum deflections (D max) recorded during the dynamic tests called for by the EN 795:2012
standard and the CEN/TS 16415:2013 technical specifications, are shown in the table below:
8.1 - Installation
The anchoring devices must be installed by competent people and adequately checked by means of
calculations or tests.
Taking the values shown in table 1 into account, carefully evaluate the suitability:
- Of the structure and the anchors.
- Of the position the anchoring device is installed in, especially evaluating the effect of deflection under various
usage conditions, including arresting a fall and holding, in order to both safeguard the wellbeing of the user and
to ensure the efficiency of the device (fig. 5).
Please note: The flexible anchoring line must be installed using connectors certified according to the EN 362
standard, with a breaking load in the major axis of at least 40 kN.
Having identified the two end anchors and any intermediate anchor points, which must preferably be
positioned above the user:
a. Use the connector (C) to hook the connecting eyelet (A1) to one of the two end anchors.
b. Uncoil the flexible anchor line (A) and use the second connector (C) to hook up the connecting eyelet (A2) to
the second end anchor.
c. Pre-tension the flexible anchoring line (A) by pulling the excess part by hand (fig. 6).
d. Use the connectors (C) to connect the flexible anchoring line (A) to any intermediate anchor points.
e. Check that the maximum angle on the flexible anchoring line (A) does not exceed 15° in relation to the
horizontal plain, including any angles that may be created adjacent to intermediate anchor points (fig. 2).
f. Finally tension the flexible anchoring line (A) using the tensioning device (B), until a load of 150 kg is
transmitted to the end anchors. Please note: Tension using only the strength of your hands, without using
devices that increase leverage (fig. 7).
g. Coil up the excess flexible anchoring line by hand, and put it in the bag (D).
h. Check that the marking on the anchoring device remains visible, otherwise put it on a sign to be put up in the
immediate vicinity.
Removing the flexible anchoring line:
i. Release the tensioning device (B) by pulling the safety catch (B2) and rotating the locking lever completely
(fig. 8).
j. Remove the flexible anchoring line from any intermediate anchor points.
k. Remove the connectors from the end anchors.
Note: Whoever installs anchoring devices, attached as required for devices that conform to the EN 795
standard, must issue an installation document to the client, signed by them, which contains at least the
following information: address and place of installation, name and address of the company that did the
installation, the name of the person tasked with the installation, the identity of the anchoring device, the fixing
methods and related data, and a schematic plan of the installation to be displayed for users. The Client is to
keep this documentation to record subsequent inspections of the anchoring device.
8.2 - Checking the height clear of obstacles between the anchor point and the ground (vertical clearance)
Fig. 9 - Check that the height clear of obstacles between the anchor point and the ground (H) is at least 2,5
metres more than the final length of the protection system (LF), calculated by adding:
a. The maximum deflection of the flexible anchoring line: 3 metres (see table 1),
b. the maximum length that the protection device chosen (of those indicated in point 8.3) can reach after a fall.
Please note: The value for this length can only be obtained from the information provided by the manufacturer
of the device chosen.
Notes:
- When checking, consider possible pendulum effects.
- To reduce deflection on the flexible anchoring line, add intermediate anchor points (fig. 10).
8.3 – Connecting to the flexible anchoring line
The user can connect to the flexible anchoring line, using:
- Lines that conform to the EN 354 standard.
- Lines for positioning to do work that conform to the EN 358 standard.
- Energy absorbers that conform to the EN 355 standard.
- Guided type devices to prevent falling, that conform to the EN 353-2 standard.
- Retractable type devices to prevent falling, that conform to the EN 360 standard.
Connectors that conform to the EN 362 standard must be used for connections between the flexible anchoring
line and the device chosen.
The user must choose the device to use to connect to the flexible anchoring line, taking into account various
factors including the type of risk of falling and the height clear of obstacles between the anchor and the ground.
Important: read point 8.2 carefully.
9 – PRE AND POST USE CHECKS
Make sure that the device is suitable for the intended use. Before and after use check that:
- The tensioning device (B):
- Shows no sign of cracks or wear.
- Shows no sign of mechanical deformations.
- Is working properly.
- By rotating the lever, you can coil up the flexible anchoring line.
- The lever's safety catch can lock automatically into the relevant gears on the side.
- By pulling on the safety catch and opening the lever completely, the flexible
anchoring line can be taken out.
- The flexible anchoring line (A):
- Does not have any cuts or excessive wear and that all stitching is intact.
We also recommend checking that the device has the year of manufacture marked on it (see batch number
table), as well as the date of the last inspection.
