3.5.1.3 BATTERY
WARNING
q
The battery produces flammable gas, therefore keep flames and sparks away from it.
q
The battery electrolyte is dangerous. In case of contact with the eyes or the skin, wash with plenty of
running water and consult a doctor without delay.
q
The battery electrolyte melts paint. In case of contact with the machine body, wash immediately with wa-
ter.
q
If the battery electrolyte freezes, do not charge the battery or start the engine with a different power
source, since the battery may explode.
q
The battery electrolyte is toxic, therefore it is important to avoid draining it in sewage systems or con-
taminating the ground.
When the ambient temperature drops, the capacity of the battery decreases accordingly. If the battery charge is
low, the electrolyte may freeze. Keep the battery charge level as high as possible and insulate the battery against
excessively low temperatures, in such a way as to be able to start the machine easily when starting work in the
morning.
NOTE
q
Measure the coolant weight density and check the battery charge percentage, using the following table:
q
Since the capacity of the battery decreases considerably at low temperatures, cover the battery or remove it
from the machine, store it in a warm place and install it again the following morning.
q
If the electrolyte level is low, add distilled water in the morning before starting work. Do not add electrolyte in the
evening at the end of work, since it may freeze during the night.
