Adjusting Low Idle Speed

minutes to warm up. The engine must be warm

Place the thro

le in the
idle
or
slow
position. Set the low idle speed to
1800
RPM (+ 150 RPM) by turning the low idle
speed screw in or out. See Figure 5-7.
NOTE: The actual low idle speed depends on
the application. Refer to the equipment
manufacturer’s recommendations. The
low idle speed for basic engines is 1800
RPM (+ 150 RPM).

High Idle Speed Se

Set the high idle speed
by turning the high idle speed screw in or out.
See Figure 5-8.
Do not
exceed 3750 RPM.
NOTE: The high idle speed is also speci
fi
ed by the
equipment manufacturer. Set according to
recommendations. The high idle speed for
basic engines is 3600 RPM (+ 150 RPM).

Carburetor Servicing
If symptoms described in the carburetor
troubleshooting guide indicate a problem within the
carburetor, the following steps can be used to remove
the carburetor from the engine and provide the
necessary service.
Carburetor Removal
1. Remove the air cleaner cover,
fi
lter element
with precleaner, the carburetor cover mounting
screws, and hex
fl
ange nuts from the mounting
stud(s). See Figure 5-9.
NOTE: If the low-pro
fi
le air cleaner is installed,
remove the cover and element, remove the
two hex
fl
ange nuts securing the base to the
carburetor and one screw secured to the
blower housing, and remove the base.
