WARNING – Failure to observe this warn-

ing may result in serious injury.

The safety alert symbol on the nameplate

means:

Read these instructions for use, observe the Spec-

ifications, and follow the Safety Instructions.

The SE 715-MS sensor is equipped with Memosens

technology. The benefits are a safe function due to

perfect galvanic isolation, digital data transmission

and an integrated sensor diagnostics, among others.

The connection is insensitive to dirt and humidity.

The calibration data, operating time, sensor desig-

nation, and serial number are stored in the sensor

head. The serial number is also printed in the quality

certificate and on the packaging label.

1  Safety Instructions

The sensor contains liquid electrolyte. Be sure to

wear safety goggles and gloves during mainte-

nance work, e.g., when replacing the membrane or

the electrolyte.

The sensor is designed to withstand a maximum

operating pressure of 3 bar and it meets the PED

requirements (Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/

EC, Article 3, Sec. 3).

Please take extra care during installation to en-

sure that neither the polymer body nor the thread

(PG 13.5) suffer any damage.

2  Intended Use

The sensor is designed for simultaneous measure-

ment of dissolved oxygen and temperature in indus-

trial processes, particularly in the field of: drinking

water, wastewater, aeration, water processing, venti-

lation control, fish farming, aquariums.

3  Installation and Commissioning

 • On unpacking, check the sensor for mechanical

damage. Report any damage to your Knick service

team.

 • Remove the watering cap and briefly rinse the sen-

sor with clean water.

 • Install the sensor in the fitting as described in the

user manual of the respective fitting or attach the

ZU0939 adapter for storing the sensor in a sensor

quiver of a portable meter from our Portavo series.

Be careful not to damage the sensor membrane.

 • The sensor can be operated vertically or inclined up

to 15° off horizontal.

 • Connect sensor and cable.

4  Operation

4.1 Calibrating the Sensor

A calibration in air is recommended for the SE  715

sensor. To do so, place the sensor in air. Rinse the sen-

sor with clean water and carefully dab the membrane

dry. Please refer to the user manual of the oxygen

transmitter for further details. The resulting calibra-

tion data (slope, temperature, time of calibration) are

saved directly in the sensor. Memosens sensors can

be precalibrated in the lab. Therefore, calibration on

site is not necessary.

4.2 Temperature Detector

The integrated temperature detector is intended for

automatic compensation of the measurement signal

and not for any high-precision and safe temperature

indication or control of the process temperature.

5  Maintenance and Cleaning

Observe the safety instructions given above when

performing maintenance work on the sensor.

5.1  Replacing the Membrane

Hold the sensor vertically and carefully screw off the

membrane cap. Fill a new membrane cap with elec-

trolyte (membrane caps and electrolyte ampoules in-

cluded in supply). Carefully screw the membrane cap

on again. Rinse the sensor with clean water.

5.2 Cleaning the Cathode

Visible deposits on the cathode can be removed with

fine sandpaper (included in supply). To do so, lay the

sandpaper on a horizontal surface and place a drop of

water on the paper. Remove the membrane cap from

the sensor and move the sensor in a circular motion

over the sandpaper. Hold the sensor vertically and

exert no pressure. Rinse the sensor with clean water,

fill a new membrane cap with electrolyte and careful-

ly screw the membrane cap on the sensor. Rinse the

sensor with clean water.

5.3 Cleaning the Anode

The anode (silver/silver chloride) has a brown to violet

color and does not require cleaning.

Clean the sensor with clean water after each produc-

tion cycle and regularly in case of heavy pollution.
