• Actual function of RELOCK varies by vehicle and which lock/unlock switch was used to Lock. See the
compatibility table on our SL20T web page for details.
ESS is a safety feature that flashes your vehicle's Hazard Lamps when rapid deceleration of 9m/s
2
(e.g., hard
braking) is detected while you are driving 55km/h* (+/- 3km/h) or faster. When ESS triggers, the Hazard lights
will flash at 3Hz (180 times per minute). Hazards will continue to flash until vehicle deceleration drops to
3m/s2* or less (i.e., when you ease off the brake).
*Varies slightly by vehicle weight.
Rapid deceleration (usually caused by braking hard) will result in the doors being auto Unlocked 9 seconds
later. However, doors will be Relocked when the vehicle speed is 20km/h or faster. (This feature has nothing to
do with your air bag or shock/impact to the vehicle.)
• Doors LOCK when vehicle speed exceeds 20km/h.
• Returning the gear to the “P” (Park) position will auto UNLOCK doors.
• Rapid deceleration will cause doors to UNLOCK 9 seconds later.
• Doors RELOCK if they are unlocked when you are driving 20km/h or faster.
• Rapid deceleration at 55km/h or faster will cause ESS to flash the Hazards.
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Metal Handle
Makes it easier when you want
to remove the SL20 from your
vehicle’s OBD connector.
OBD Connector
This white part connects directly into your
vehicle’s factory OBD connector.
RESET Button
Used only when moving the SL20
to another vehicle, or if the vehicle
is not recognized for some reason.
Internal LED (red)
Lights when the product
is operating.
STEP-1
:
Start your car’s engine.
STEP-2:
Connect the SL20 to your car’s OBD connector, then the SL20’s internal red LED
will start flashing.
STEP-3:
Installation is complete when the LED changes from flashing to being lit solid red.
(You can now turn off your engine.)
You must connect the SL20 only AFTER you start your car’s engine! And DO NOT turn off your engine
until the SL20’s internal LED changes from flashing to being lit solid red.
If you connect the SL20 before you start the engine, or if you stop the engine while the SL20’s LED is
flashing, or if you crank the engine with the SL20 connected, the following could occur:
If you experience either of the two problem cases above, while your car’s engine is running, use a paperclip to
press the SL20’s Reset Button UNTIL the internal red LED of the SL20 starts to flash. The SL20’s LED should
then change from Flashing to Lit Solid after you release the Reset Button (which means it’s operating correctly).
You can use something other than a paperclip if you like, so long as it won’t break off in the Rest Button’s hole.
1) If you are installing the SL20 with a CAR DOOR OPENED:
Doors may repeatedly Lock and Unlock.
2) If you are installing the SL20 with CAR DOORS CLOSED:
The SL20’s LED may become lit solid red but the SL20 will not function at all.

Once the SL20 is properly installed, the LED will light solid red when the SL20 is operational and while the
vehicle’s CAN-BUS network is active. The SL20’s LED will turn off when the vehicle’s CAN goes into
SLEEP mode, at which time the SL20 will go into its own power save mode.
NOTE: Starting your vehicle’s engine will wake the CAN, but turning of your engine or Ignition will not
immediately sleep the CAN. How long it takes for the vehicle’s CAN to sleep varies by vehicle.
