starting procedUre & operational controls
note:
As a safety precaution, the machine will not restart automatically if the power
is interrupted. To reset the machine, press the Off button, and then press the On
button to restart wood lathe. This machine comes equipped with an emergency
“STOP” switch (A) Fig.12. This switch is magnetic, and can be moved around the
lathe so that it is easily accessed by the operator. This switch performs the same
function as the power switch on the headstock.
When the machine is plugged into a power source, the spindle speed digital readout
(B) Fig.12 will read “0”.
To start the lathe:
1. First, move the forward/reverse switch (C) Fig.12 into the desired position. The
“FWD” position will rotate the spindle counterclockwise, and the “REV” position
will rotate the spindle clockwise.
2. Rotate the variable speed control knob (D) counter-clockwise to put it in the
lowest setting (MIN).
3. Press the On button (E) to start the machine. To stop the machine, simply press
the Off buton (F) or press the emergency stop button (A).
The emergency stop button (A) Fig.12 has a magnetic backing, and can be moved
around the lathe so that it is easily accessed by the operator. This switch performs
the same function as the Off button (F) on the headstock.
4. Adjust the spindle speed by turning the variable speed control knob (D) Fig.12,
observe the digital readout (B), it will indicate the actual spindle speed in RPM’s.
note:
When the machine is plugged into a power source, the spindle speed digital
readout (B) Fig.12 will read “0”.
changing the spindle speed range
The spindle speed is adjusted using the variable speed control knob. However, the
spindle speed range is adjusted by moving the drive belt. There are three sets of
drive pulleys, which produce three different speed ranges. Refer to Fig.13 for the
spindle speed ranges and the belt configuration needed. To change the spindle
speed range:
1. Make sure the machine is turned off, and unplugged from the power source.
Loosen the belt guard cover screw, and open the belt guard cover (A) Fig.14.
2. Loosen the motor tension lock handle (B), and pull the belt tension lever (C)
towards the front of the wood lathe.
3. Following the chart on the inside of the headstock cover, move the drive belt (D) into position and onto the corresponding drive pulleys. Slowly
rotate the spindle by hand while pushing the belt onto the drive pulley. Ensure that the grooves in the pulley and belt are aligned, and the belt
runs smoothly.
4. Push the belt tension lever (C) back towards the rear of the wood lathe to retension the drive belt. Retighten the motor tension lock handle (B).
Make sure the belt is properly tensioned by pushing on the belt in between the pulleys using your finger. The belt should deflect between 1/8”
to 1/4”.
