5.3 Thumb Key Mode Selection: Windows, PC & Mac
In addition to selecting between QWERTY and Dvorak layouts, Advantage2 users can select from one of
three Thumb Key Modes to configure the four modifier keys in the Thumb Clusters to match their operating
system (
Mac Note: two other keys change in Mac Mode
). The three Thumb Key Modes are 1) Windows, 2)
Mac, and 3) PC, which omits the Windows key from the thumb key group. For non-US language models, see
https://www.kinesis-ergo.com/support/technical-support/manuals-drivers/
.
Thumb key Modes are set independently for each layout and are no longer “global” as in earlier firmware
versions. For U.S. models, a “reset” (see Section 7.2) will reset the thumb keys to the default “Windows”
mode for the active layout, and a “hard reset” (see Section 7.3) will reset it for both QWERTY and Dvorak.
All US Advantage2 keyboards are shipped from the factory in Windows mode (see Fig 14). Four additional
keycaps corresponding to PC and Mac Mode are provided with the keyboard and can be installed so that the
thumb key legends match the corresponding key actions. Non-US versions ship in PC mode (see Fig 16) and
don’t ship with extra keycaps.
