MAXIMUM SETPOINT TO MEASUREMENT RESPONSE
The maximum setpoint-to-measurement response specification has been added to the perfor-
mance specifications. This specification defines the time between a voltage or current setpoint
change to a valid measurement to be 50 milliseconds maximum. This specification assumes
that he unit is in bipolar mode. This is accomplished by new SCPI commands/queries, modifying
the *WAI command and using the proper command string syntax required to implement the fea-
ture (see PAR. 3.5.1.2.3).
3.5.1.2.1 NEW OR MODIFIED COMMANDS:
•
MEAS? new query - Used to measure both voltage and current without sending separate
MEAS:VOLT? and MEAS:CURR? queries.
•
SYST:MODE new command and query - Default setting is BIPolar to allow the unit to
meet the 55 millisecond (maximum) specification. Can be set to UNIPolar to allow the
unit to have the same programming interface as standard (current) production models.
•
MEAS:MODE? Provides the ability to synchronous or asynchronous mode of measure-
ment.
3.5.1.2.2 POWER-UP DEFAULTS
The power-up defaults are as follows:
SYSTem:MODE set to UNIpolar to be compatible with earlier firmware versions. When set to
BIPolar, unit meets the 55 millisecond (maximum) specification. NOTE: When set to BIPolar,
changing of the voltage setpoint in voltage mode
requires
using VOLT command to set voltage
and CURR:PROT to set the current limit. Changing of the current setpoint in current mode
requires
using CURR command to set current and VOLT:PROT to set the voltage limit. When
set to BIPolar no drivers are available.
MEAS:MODE set to ASYNc. When set to SYNC, the unit synchronizes set point changes with
measurements to meet the 55 milliseconds (maximum) time specification. When set to ASYNc,
the measurements are updated when a difference of 6 LSBs is detected in either a voltage or
current measurement. In ASYNC measurement mode there is no correlation between measure-
ments and set point changes and the unit can attain set point changes at a rate of 25 millisec-
onds per set point with a measurement; the measurement will be delayed from the set point by
three commands.
3.5.1.2.3 HOW TO IMPLEMENT MAXIMUM SETPOINT TO MEASUREMENT SPECIFICATION
To initialize implementation of the maximum setpoint to measurement specification, send the fol-
lowing two commands.
•
SYST:MODE BIP to set bipolar mode, requiring the use of CURR:PROT and
VOLT:PROT to set the protection levels.
•
MEAS:MODE SYNC to enable the synchronous mode where a setpoint change syncs
the readback response of the unit.
