Signal propagation delay and jitter
Many CIE (e.g. Fire panel) only offer tight timing requirements for supporting a class A
redundant ring application. With the introduction of third-party equipment into an OEM
redundant transmission path, additional signal delays and jitter are often introduced
with the original CIEs no longer able to function as required. The DNX R-2F/FC
modules are designed to support extended signal delays and jitter. When used with the
installed CIEs, these modules can provide a functional class A redundant solution that
is tolerant of most delays and jitter.
The LED indicators show the status of the data signals. The optic fibre module
provides a “signal detect” function that monitors the link connection dynamically,
ensuring that the signal level at the receiver is within the required specification for good
communication. These signals are monitored and recorded to track transmission path
performance drift. The information is retained for system degradation monitoring in
support of life-safety preventative maintenance programs.
Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM)
The SFP transceivers used in the DNX R-2F/FC have full support for DOM.
The live DOM data retrieved from the SFP module is recorded in the
DNX R-2F/FC
and analysed for performance against the warning and alarm level read from the
calibrated SFP transceiver itself.
The DNX R-2F/FC flashes IO PORT 1 LED in Amber (light Red) if the Warning or
Alarm levels have been exceeded on PORT B SFP and IO PORT LED 3 for PORT C
SFP.
The IVIEW application is used for a more detailed analysis and report generation. The
monitored DOM information includes the following SFP characteristics:
-
operating temperature (°C)
-
laser current (mA)
-
supply voltage (mV)
-
transmit power (dBm)
-
receive power (dBm)
This information is used for preventative maintenance as the information provides an
indication on trend. IVIEW uses multiple event information to monitor for operational
degradation.
