5.1.2 Connection as a gateway
5.1 PC connection of the basic device
The basic device with module can be connected
to a PC in two ways:
1.
Ethernet interface (only RCM-EL)
To configure and read data, connect your
basic device via the Ethernet interface of
module 96-PA-RCM-EL with the PC (GridVis
®
software).
2.
RS-485 interface

INFORMATION
For communication, your basic device with module
96-PA-RCM-EL is equipped with
·1 Ethernet interface and
·1 RS-485 interface (field bus),
which you must configure in the
Communication
window.
For the PC connection via Ethernet, the basic de-
vice with the
96-PA-RCM-EL module
can be used
as a gateway (client device).
ATTENTION
Material damage due to incorrect network
settings.
Incorrect network settings can cause faults
in the IT network!
Consult your network administrator for the cor-
rect network settings for your device.
5.2 PC connection of the basic device with
module via the Ethernet interface (only
RCM-EL)
INFORMATION
New terms of the Modbus organization!
·The
Modbus organization (modbus.org)
uses
the terms
"client"
and
"server"
as a substitute
for "master" and "slave".
·The client device initiates the communication
and sends requests via Modbus.
·The server devices process the requests and
return appropriate responses.
The gateway acts as a Modbus TCP server and
as a Modbus RTU client. For operation as a gate-
way, navigate to and set
Configuration > Commu-
nication > RS-485 mode
