Diatomaceous Earth Pool Filters - DEL Series Filter

WARNING

NEVER

 operate the

fi

lter system at more than 50 psi

of pressure. Operating the

fi

 lter system in excess of

50 psi can cause the

fi

lter lid to be blown off, which

can cause death, serious personal injury or property
damage.

Caution

DO NOT

 operate

fi

 lter at water temperatures above

120° F (65.5° C). Water temperatures above the
manufacturer's recommendations will shorten the life
span of the

fi

 lter and void the warranty.

WARNING

NEVER

 start pump while standing within

fi

 ve (5)

feet of the

fi

lter. Starting the pump while there is

pressurized air in the system can cause the

fi

 lter

lid to be blown off, which can cause death, se ri ous
personal injury or property damage.

Section 4. Start-Up and Operation

WARNING

Changing the multiport valve handle while there is
pressurized air in the system can cause the

fi

 lter

lid to be blown off, which can cause death, se ri ous
personal injury or property damage.

Caution

Dust released during normal handling of diatomaceous
earth can cause eye and respiratory irritation. Prolonged
breathing of excess concentrations of dust may cause
lung damage.

Caution

Never

operate

fi

lter in excess of three (3) minutes

without use of diatomaceous earth (DE). DE is the
substance that

fi

 lters the water, the

fi

 lter cloth merely

supports the DE. Operating without DE will damage

fi

 lter grids and short en

fi

 ltering cycles.

4.1  Preparing Diatomaceous Earth

Your fi lter requires diatomaceous earth (DE) for proper
fi ltration and operation. The fi lter grids must be
precoated with DE in order to protect their surfaces and
provide the most effi cient fi ltering action. Refer to
Table 3 for the proper quantity of DE to use with your
fi lter.

1.      Using a one (1) pound coffee can, fi ll the can

with diatomaceous earth (DE). Do not pack or
compress the DE into the can.

2.      Mix the required amount of  DE with suffi cient

water in a separate bucket to make a thin, milky
mixture (slurry).

NOTE

Excess DE will clog the system. Use amount

speci

fi

 ed in this manual.

3.      Use the following instructions to coat the fi lter

grids.

4.2  Coating the Filter Grids

1.      Prepare recommended amount of DE as outlined

in Section 4.1.

2.      Start the fi lter system as outlined in Section 4.3.

3.      With the pump running and the pool skimmer

valve open, slowly pour the mixture directly into
the pool's skimmer basket. The slurry will be
drawn into the fi lter.

4.      After coating of grids, rotate the bezel of the

pressure gauge so that the arrow next to the word
"CLEAN" is aligned with the needle of the gauge.
This marks the original starting pressure of the
system.

5.      Clean the fi lter when the pressure of the system

increases so that needle of the gauge aligns with
the arrow next to the word "DIRTY" on the bezel
of the gauge. This indicates an increased pressure
of between 10 and 12 psi above original starting
pressure.
