5. Verify all batteries are within a 0.05 Volt range.
If any battery is more than 0.05 Volts of the others,
each battery will need to be fully charged separately to balance their voltages before making
parallel connections.
Parallel connecting unbalanced batteries will cause a large inrush current that
could permanently damage a battery. Use the
Pre-Charge Proced
ure
section in this manual to
charge each battery separately before continuing.
6. After verifying the batteries
’ voltage, turn each battery OFF by pressing and holding the Wake Up
button for 10 seconds.
7. Prior to making any connections, verify the following:
All batteries are OFF
& the battery’s DC connections are de-energized
All circuit breakers and disconnects in the system are in the OFF / OPEN position
System is not energized from any AC or DC power sources
8. Connect each
battery’s positive connection to the battery combiner box using a 4/0 cable protected
with a 250 amp circuit breaker. Torque the battery terminal connection to 120 in-lbs. / 10 ft-lbs.
9.
Connect the battery’s negative connection to the battery combiner box using a 4/0 cable. Torque the
battery terminal connection to 120 in-lbs. / 10 ft-lbs.
10.
11. Turn each battery ON.
12. Before closing each
battery’s 250 amp circuit breaker, confirm battery voltage and polarity at the
circuit breaker’s LINE side with a volt meter.
13. Double check that all batteries are within a 0.05 Volt range.
If any battery is more than 0.05 Volts
of the others, each battery will need to be fully charged separately to balance their voltages
before making parallel connections.
See the
Pre-Charge Procedure
section in this manual.
14.
Close each
battery’s 250 amp circuit breaker, and continue proper commissioning of your system.
