SECTION 7
CONFIGURING YOUR DEVICE
Your iPB4 biometric device was designed to be extremely simple to configure and use. Depending on which
of the software applications you use to manage your device, there is very little to do to get it up and
running.
Connecting it to the IntelliRelay
™ and
having the IntelliRelay™ connected to the network is normally all
that is required for your reader to identify itself to the software, and to be ready to install. iPulse calls this
auto-identification the
zero-configuration mode (ZCM)
and it is a unique feature of the iPBx range of
biometric readers.
On booting, your iPB4 biometric device will issue a number of beeps and change the colours of the lights
on the LED panel on the front casing.
In some cases, your device may be configured
incorrectly, or may lose its automatic settings due to
changes made with software. When this happens, there
is a quick and easy mechanism to reset the device to
factory defaults.
Unscrew the front cover and disconnect the iPB4 from
the cable providing power and communications. Wait 15
seconds at least, then bridge out the RESET switch (
see
Jumpers) with a screw driver or any
other conductive metal, and then reconnect the iPB4
biometric device to the cable.
If you hold the reset connection for 5 seconds, the unit
should beep once, and this means that the unit has had
its IP address reset to 10.0.0.250 as a static IP. This will
allow you to connect to it manually from a PC without a
DHCP server, should you require this for some reason.
If you continue to bridge the reset jumpers for 10
seconds, the unit will beep twice, and reset everything to
factory defaults!
This removes all users from the device
and
tells the device that it should see itself as a “new”
device.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR IPB4 WHEN IT “TALKS” TO YOU!
Your iPB4 biometric device is capable of speaking to you. Much like R2D2, the Star Wars robot, your
iPB4 uses a series of lights and sounds to tell you what is going on. For a full listing of the meaning of
all the types of sounds and lights shown by your device, please see Appendix B
