Removing/Installing the SSD Motor Drive Wheel/Wheel Hub
Removing
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 14.3 on page 143.
1. Place the wheelchair in a well ventilated area where work can be performed without
risking damage to carpeting or floor covering.
2. Verify the joystick On/Off switch is in the Off position.
3. Remove the battery boxes. Refer to Removing/Installing Battery Boxes on page 121
4. Place two 5-inch blocks under battery frame to lift frame off the ground for ease in
performing this procedure.
5. Perform one of the following:
• To remove the drive wheel only -
i. Remove the five mounting screws securing the drive wheel to the wheel hub.
ii. Remove the drive wheel from the wheel hub.
• To remove the drive wheel and the wheel hub -
i. Remove the five mounting screws securing the drive wheel to the wheel hub.
ii. Remove the drive wheel from the wheel hub.
iii. Remove the locknut, washer, and 8mm hub spacer that secures the wheel hub
to the drive shaft.
Installing
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 14.3 on page 143.
1. Perform one of the following:
• To install the drive wheel -
i. Secure the drive wheel to the wheel hub with the five 5/16-18 X .88 cap screws.
Torque to 160 in-lbs.
• To Install the Drive Wheel and Wheel Hub -
i. Apply a thin film of Super Lube
®
, one inch in length, to the end of the drive
shaft.
CAUTION
DO NOT apply more than a 1-inch (in length) thin film of Super Lube to the drive
shaft. Applying more than 1-inch (in length) can cause the anti-seize compound to
leak resulting in damage to flooring (carpet, tile, etc.).
ii. Place the 8mm hub spacer on to the drive shaft.
