Surge Protection Devices

CAUTION:

Turn off power to the electric service or panel and to equipment to be protected

before installing any Surge Protection Device.  All wiring should be done by a qualified electrician
and comply with the National Electric Code and local electric codes
.

INSTALLATION

1.

Test and verify system voltage to assure proper model selection of Surge Protection Device (SPD).  Refer to the
wiring configurations and voltages below for additional information.

2.

The SPD’s are series devices with a 20-amp maximum.  Verify that a circuit breaker or fuse no larger than 20
amps protects the circuit.

3.

Turn Power OFF.

4.

Mount the SPD securely to the panel.  If the unit is positioned outside of the cabinet and prevents the direct
connection of the nipple to the equipment panel, a short piece of conduit must be used to comply with the national
Electric Code.

5.

Twist or ty-wrap lead wires to eliminate any space or gaps between them.

6.

Cut each wire lead to the proper length. DO NOT coil extra wire length.

7.

Break the hot (Black) line. Attach the black wire marked “I” to the power source.  Attach the black wire marked “O”
to the protected equipment lead.

8.

Break the neutral (White) line. Attach the white wire marked “I” to the power source.  Attach the white wire marked
“O” to the protected equipment lead.

9.

Connect the GREEN wire lead to the system ground. If the equipment has a separate ground lead, break the
ground lead and connect the three wires together.

10.

Check all connections for proper tightness or torque. Turn Power on.

11.

Make sure that the indicator on the SPD is ON. If not, turn power off and recheck each installation step listed
above.

12.

For troubleshooting assistance, call Intermatic at 815-675-7000 and select Technical Assistance from the
