Intel® SAS Expander Card Installation / Removal
This section provides instructions to install an optional Intel® SAS/SATA expander card in the system. The
server system supports the SAS/SATA expander card as an accessory option. The SAS/SATA expander card
is used for systems with more than 16 SAS/SATA drives in the front bay. This card must be connected to the
ROC module installed on the SAS interposer card using Mini-SAS HD SFF 8643 connectors. The SAS/SATA
expander card is mounted next to the SAS interposer card. Refer to the

for available options.
Required Tools and Supplies
•
Anti-static wrist strap and conductive workbench pad (recommended)
•
Phillips* head screwdriver #1

1.
Power off the system and disconnect the power cable(s).

Remove the system top cover (see
Section 3.1.1

Remove the air duct (see
Section 3.2.1
4.
Remove the SAS expander card from its packaging.
5.
Align the three screw holes of the SAS expander card with the matching threaded holes on the base of
the chassis (see Letter A).
6.
Secure the SAS expander card to the chassis using three screws pre-installed in the chassis
(see Letter B). Tighten to 5 in-lb.
7.
Attach all the cables as required.

Reinstall the air duct (see
