2.7.1 Upgrades
Concurrent CP, IFL, ICF, zIIP, or SAP upgrades are done within a z13s server. Concurrent
upgrades require available PUs, and that extra PUs be installed previously, but not activated.
Spare PUs are used to replace defective PUs. On Model N10, unassigned PUs are used as
spares. A fully configured Model N10 does not have any spares. Model N20 always has two
dedicated spares.
If an upgrade request cannot be accomplished within the N10 configuration, a hardware
upgrade to Model N20 is required. The upgrade involves extra hardware to add the second
node in the first drawer, and might force the addition of a second drawer. The upgrade from
N10 to N20 is disruptive.
Supported upgrade paths (see Figure 2-27 on page 71):
򐂰 Upgrade to z13s processors from earlier processors:
– From both the z114 and zBC12 servers
򐂰 Upgrade from z13s servers:
– Model N10 to N20
– Model N20 to z13 N30 Radiator-based (air-cooled) only

You can upgrade an IBM z114 or a zBC12 (frame roll) preserving the CPC serial number.
Features that are common between systems are candidates to move.
Note: Memory downgrades are not offered. Model downgrade (removal of a CPC drawer)
is not offered, nor supported.
