TS3400 Tape Library Maintenance Information
The I/O Station ( in Figure 2-4) is used to import and export cartridges without
interrupting normal library operation. The three slots at the front of the lower
magazine can be configured as I/O Station slots. The I/O slots are shared by all
logical libraries.
Cleaning Cartridge Slots
Cleaning cartridges are used to clean the tape drive heads. Up to two slots in the
upper magazine can be configured as cleaning slots. The cleaning cartridge slots are
used for both manual and automatic cleaning, and are shared by all logical libraries.
When the library has two cleaning cartridges, the cartridge with the higher cleaning
count usage is selected for the automatic cleaning function.
Front Panel LEDs
Three LEDs are located to the left of the LCD display on the Operator Panel on the
front of the library. These indicate the status of the library.
•
Power ON
(Green LED) - The Power ON LED ( in Figure 2-5) is lit when the
library is powered ON and able to function.
•
Alarm
(Yellow LED) - The Alarm LED ( in Figure 2-5) is lit when a piece of media
is bad, degraded, or invalid, and indicates that operator intervention is required. It
is cleared when all invalid cartridges have been exported from the library. It also is
lit when a redundant power supply unit is powered OFF or loses power, when the
Autoclean function is enabled and no cleaning cartridge is in the cleaning slot, or
when the drive requests to be cleaned and no cleaning cartridge resides in the
library.
•
Error
(Orange LED) - The Error LED ( in Figure 2-5) is lit when there is an
unrecoverable library or drive failure. A message is also displayed at the same time
on the Operator Panel. It is cleared when the error state is resolved.
Operator Panel
Figure 2-5. Operator Control Panel
The Operator Panel features a monochrome LCD graphic display ( in Figure 2-5)
located on the front of the library. Library operations and service functions are
performed from this screen.
The Web User Interface offers most of the same functionality as the Operator Panel
using a web browser for remote access to the library. For more information on using
the Operator Panel
and the Web User Interface for library management functions,

IBM System Storage TS3400 Tape Library Planning and Operator Guide
